What Neuraknow is

Neuraknow is a free spaced-repetition app for iOS and Android. It helps you remember what you learn by scheduling reviews at expanding intervals, using the FSRS (Free Spaced Repetition Scheduler) algorithm to predict when each piece of knowledge is about to slip away and surfacing it just before that point.

You write a small question-and-answer card for something you want to keep. Neuraknow shows it to you the next day. If you remember it, the next interval grows. If you don't, it shrinks. Over weeks and months, the cards you know well drift to intervals of months or years; the cards you struggle with cycle every few days. You spend most of your time on what you are about to forget, and almost no time on what you already know.

Who built it

Neuraknow is built by Abid Waqar, an independent developer. It is a personal project, not a company-backed product. There are no investors, no external funding, no growth team, and no plans to monetize. The app is built with Flutter and runs entirely on the user's device.

The motivation is simple: classical spaced-repetition tools like Anki are powerful but ask new users to learn the app before they can use it. Many people who would benefit from spaced repetition stop somewhere on that ramp. Neuraknow is the version where the science is set up correctly by default, so the only thing you have to learn is the habit.

Design choices

FSRS by default

Neuraknow uses FSRS (Free Spaced Repetition Scheduler), an open-source algorithm developed by Jarrett Ye and the Open Spaced Repetition project. Unlike SM-2, the algorithm Anki used for two decades, FSRS models each card's difficulty, stability, and retrievability and predicts the probability that you'll remember it on a given day. Reviews are scheduled when that probability drops to a target you choose, typically around 90 percent. The practical effect: less review for the same retention.

On-device only

Everything Neuraknow stores — concepts, collections, review history, scheduling state, settings — lives in a SQLite database on your device. There is no server, no cloud sync, no backup service, and no account. The trade-off is that you cannot sync between devices; the upside is that the app cannot leak data it doesn't have.

No tracking, no analytics, no ads

Neuraknow collects nothing. No telemetry, no crash reports, no usage analytics, no fingerprinting. The developer has no idea who is using the app or how. The only network requests the app makes are when you use a web link from inside it; the app itself does not phone home. See the full privacy policy for details.

Calm, focused interface

No streaks. No badges. No notifications begging you to come back. No leaderboards. The interface is built around the actual practice — see a card, try to remember, rate yourself, move on — rather than around engagement metrics. A daily reminder at a time you choose is the only nudge.

What it is not

Neuraknow is not a replacement for Anki for power users. If you have an existing Anki workflow with shared decks, custom note types, image occlusion, and AnkiWeb sync, stay with Anki. If you have not yet started, or if you tried Anki and gave up at the configuration screen, Neuraknow is the option to try.

Neuraknow is also not a substitute for understanding. Spaced repetition is for retaining things you have already worked to understand. Memorizing the definition of a concept you don't grasp gives you a brittle fact that fails the moment a question is phrased differently. The companion practice is the Feynman Technique, which is about comprehension; spaced repetition handles retention.
